Has Barbra Streisand Entered the Quote Pantheon?
Not since ScarJo in March have we had a new entry. Will this be our latest?
There’s a quote pantheon. Scarlett Johansson entered it back in March when she declared: “I don’t want to be identified as being in this time and place with you,” joining the ranks of forebears like Kim Cattrall (“I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself”), Whoopi Goldberg (“I don’t want somebody in my house”) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (“I’m sick of apologizing for being rich and gorgeous”).
In a recent interview by the famously reclusive Barbra Streisand, she offered up a quote that became immediate fodder for quote pantheon consideration when she said:
“I’m very lazy. I don’t like to have to work. I like to be free. I don’t like to have commitments.”
Like many among the quote pantheon, it possesses an immediate “it me” quality to it and evokes the nostalgia of US Weekly’s canonical: “Stars — They're Just Like Us!” It’s a solid quote for sure. But is it deserving of the pantheon? I — as you might expect — have thoughts.
