Timmy and Kylie Hard-Launching at Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour? It's Bad.
Warning: This is not a safe space.
When I first got word that Timothée Chalamet was dating the woman from the “next thing I knew I was pregnant” meme, I reacted how I often do: in accordance with a Real Housewives moment. In this instance, there were three stages.
First, à la Nene Leakes: "...Okay? Well whatever that means.
Then, à la Bethenny Frankel and Dorinda Medley:
Bethenny: It’s bad, yeah.
Dorinda: Bad.
Bethenny: No, it’s kinda bad.
Dorinda: I just need you to say that to me: “It was bad.”
Bethenny: No, it was bad.
Dorinda: But why don’t you ever say that?
Bethenny: It is bad.
Finally, à la Heather Dubrow: “This is low base bullshit!"
Look, I’m all for a publicity stunt. Those videos of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello doing their zombified quarantine walks practically got me through the pandemic. But this moment, with Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner hard-launching their relationship at Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour stop in Los Angeles, evoked a sort of cringe typically reserved for a Katy Perry tweet, a Che Diaz stand-up set or a certain someone bobbling their head while awkwardly walking through East Hampton (IYKYK). It also, for reasons, evoked that scene early on in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie where Stereotypical Barbie asks, “Do you guys ever think about dying?”
But why? Why this unfounded rage over a burgeoning love story amidst the summer of celebrity break-ups? Let’s dig in.
