“[Nicole Kidman] is incapable of not becoming a meme,” reads a recent viral tweet that made the rounds after the First Lady of Cinema was interviewed by [checks notes] PopCrave on the red carpet of a Babygirl screening in Los Angeles. “I’m with PopCrave,” the interviewer begins. “With what?” Kidman responds, flashing eyes of confusion. “With PopCrave,” the interviewer repeats, adding no further context or explanation and expecting clarity. “Oh, great,” she replies earnestly before looking to the side, ostensibly at her publicist, and shrugging. Then divinity strikes, Nicole gets the giggles, turns and IJBOLs before immediately, with the speed of a Peregrine falcon, switching her expression to that of a serious actress. This became an instant classic, as did her lack of familiarity with Twitter’s preeminent “stun” machine. “Nicole Kidman stuns not knowing what PopCrave is,” one Reddit thread joked.

And it’s true, there is something so supremely memeable about Kidman. It’s both the things she says and the things she does. Even her awareness and acknowledgement somehow fuels the ecosystem. “I’ll do anything for cinema — so you can meme me as much as you want,” she told GQ earlier this year. Naturally, I made that into a meme.
